Monday, March 15, 2010----B DAY

 

3/3-3/26  Looking for a week long summer experience on a college campus? Interested in the field of business and entrepreneurship? Apply to attend Ohio Business Week. There are openings for six McKinley students to create a company with 10-12 other teens from across Ohio. Cost is minimal, and financial aid is available. Stop by the McKSTARS office for an application. Deadline is April 23.

3/5-3/26  2010 QuestBridge College Plan Scholarship for Juniors- Raise your sights: A Top Tier College Education is Possible - If you are a high school junior with a strong academic record and an annual family income of less than $60,000 with typical assets, you are encouraged to apply.  Many past award recipients have also been part of the first generation in their family to attend college.  For more information go to www.questbridge.org - or see Mrs. Bryan or Mrs. Bissmeyer for an application.  Applications will also be available in the College Access room in the McKStars Office.  Application deadline is March 29, 2010

3/15  Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Queen Pageant will take place Thursday, May 13.  Any females who will be between 18-23 from May 1 to September 1 are qualified to apply to participate.  Application packets are available by seeing your counselor and the deadline to apply is TODAY Monday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m.

 

3/9-3/20  Attention Seniors who were patients of Drs Bernard and Eimer.  Check our counseling website or college access room for an application for a $1000 scholarship!  You MUST be, or have been, a patient of Bernard and Eimer.

 

3/3-3/26  An accounting Careers Awareness Program will be held at the Ohio State University this summer for high school minority students interested the field of accounting. This is an opportunity to stay on the campus and participate in a week long accounting program with free tuition, room and board, books, materials, and touring. There will also be the chance to compete for college scholarships. Applications can be completed online at www.FutureCPA.com or pick up an application from your counselor.

 

3/10-19  Seniors with at least a 3.0, leadership, extra-curriculars, and community service: Apply for the Krispinsky Scholarship. Four Stark County students will receive $500. Applications are on the guidance website and in the STARS office.

 

3/10-3/26  Interested in learning Arabic, Chinese, or Hindi? Applications are now available for the Kent State Foreign Language Academy. This an entirely free opportunity to earn at least 8 college credits in the language of choice through a 4 week summer immersion program and several Saturday mini-immersion sessions next school year. If accepted, you will stay on the Kent State campus for an entire month this summer. All tution, room and board, admissions fees, and textbooks are taken care of. You will participate in field trips, films, music, cuisine, conversation, and classroom instruction. This is a fantastic opportunity for any junior or senior interested in learning a critical language. See Mrs. Nickels in the STARS office to pick up an application.

 

3/10-3/26  Outstanding senior males planning on attending The Ohio State University, Miami, Cincinnati, Toledo, or BGSU:

Apply for the Balanced Man scholarship today. Amounts range from $5000 to $500 for well-rounded males. Pick up an application from your counselor, the STARS office, our guidance website or go to www.sigepbms.com

3/12-3/16  Junior & Seniors of McKinley High:  Make sure you are saving the date!  Prom will be May 29 from 7 pm to midnight at the McKinley Grand.  A fantastic evening is planned so save money now for ticket sales which will be at the beginning of May.  If you would like to help with prom planning, please see Mrs. Nickels in McK-STARS office as soon as possible.

 

3/12-3/26  Come support your prom by attending our prom fashion show on Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. in Umstattd Hall.   20 of McK’s finest seniors will be wearing the latest prom fashions. 

 

3/12-3/19  Young ladies who want a bargain for prom attire can attend a Prom Dress Extravaganza at “My Fairy Godmother” located at the Southgate Shopping Center in Maple Heights.  It will take place on Saturday March 20 and Sunday March 21.  Dresses are $25, shoes are $5 and accessories cost $2.50-$5.  Any questions, check in the main office.

 

3/12-3/24  Seniors planning to enter office administration or the secretarial field; there is a scholarship for you! Awards will range from $500-$1000. Check out the guidance website or stop by the scholarship box in the STARS office.

 

3/12-3/29  Please see Mrs. Lepley in Room #108 if you plan on running girls' track this year!!!!  Track officially began on March 8th so see Mrs. Lepley ASAP!!!!

 

3/15-3/31  Seniors who attended Claredon for at least 3 years and have a 3.0: your guidance department has a scholarship for you! Pick up a hard copy application in the STARS office today. Deadline is April 15th.

 

3/15-19  The Canton Ballet presents “The Wizard of Oz” on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Palace Theatre.  Students receive a $1 discount on their ticket—promo code: sch10
